I started committing to writing on Medium last December. I had hit a low point in my chronic pain journey (it’s thankfully better, though the ups and downs are constant).

Writing has always been a source of support and healing, and after this low point (and months of not writing), I needed to write. Without understanding anything at all about how this space works, I wrote some REALLY (fair warning) long pieces to make sense of my situation.

Over the past seven months, I have found that Medium provided a space for me to write anything and everything — poetry, short essays, academic research, journalistic reflections, DIY posts (thanks Amanda Laughtland!), and more.

Once I started going strong here on Medium (around early January), I made a goal of writing one hundred posts…

And here I am! My 100th post! WOOT!

Recently, my literary agent asked us (my agent siblings and me) a few questions to help motivate each other during this intense and crazy times.

In the spirit celebrating writing, I thought I’d share my responses here.

Why do you write?

I write to make sense of the world, to learn and reflect and purge my feelings into some kind of order that maybe makes sense, maybe doesn’t, but ultimately gives me the illusion of control over something. 😆

What about the publishing process, whether you’re published or unpublished, brings you joy?

Connecting with readers is the best. I had a 60 something year old man at a book fest once tell me…
